In this DaVinci Resolve editing tutorial Alli shares 2 Ways to Change Timeline Resolution Fast in DaVinci Resolve!
I'm going to show you how easy it is to change your timeline resolution. If you're new here, I'm Ally and Will, and I release weekly Da Vinci Resolve editing tutorials as well as gear reviews. If you're into that sort of thing, subscribe to stay in the loop.
Now, let's hop into Resolve and check this out. We're in the Edit page of Resolve, and we can see here that our timeline resolution, which you can access just by scrolling right or left, is set to 1920x1080. There are a couple different ways that we can change this resolution.
Let's right-click on this timeline, go to Timelines, Timeline Settings. Under Format, look, there is a drop-down menu here we can't access. That's because we have to uncheck "Use Project Settings." There we go. Now, we can change it to whatever resolution you'd like. I'm going to choose 4K, which is 3840x2160.
If you wanted to use a vertical resolution instead, you could just checkmark this. And look, those numbers have flipped. Before you press OK, let's pop into the Output tab. I just like to make sure that "Use Timeline Settings for Output Scaling" is checkmarked. So when you go to export your video project, it will be set up with these same settings you're choosing now.
So press OK. We can see that our resolution is now 3840x2160 like we wanted. I'm just going to undo this for a sec to bring it back to 1920x1080, 'cause I want to show you the second way of changing the timeline resolution, which is by clicking on the bottom right wrench tool here.
Under Master Settings, Timeline Resolution, click the drop-down menu. I'll choose 4K. Press Save. And there you go. Your timeline resolution is changed.
Depending on your footage, changing your timeline resolution can affect the look and quality of your video project. So, I highly recommend you check out this "Three Ways to Sharpen Video" next, which will show you my go-to ways to enhance the sharpness and quality of your editing projects.
If you want to know our favorite drive because it's super fast and portable, or you want to know any of the gear that we recommend and use, check out the links below. I hope you have a lovely day, and we'll see you in the next video.
